Game project Beyond: Two Souls is a magnificent creation of the company Quantic Dream, which created Heavy Rain. With this project, the game decided to push the genre of interactive game projects to a new level. Now it is a more dynamic plot, real actors and high-quality facial animation. How to play Beyond: Two Souls and what you need to know about it?
Story line
The game tells about Jodie Holmes - a girl endowed with a unique gift. And this gift lies in a life partner. Literally from the first days, the essence of Aiden is attached to the young lady. And Ayden, living with Jody, not only disobeyed her, but also acts against her. However, Ayden cannot leave her, so protecting the heroine is his constant burden. And now they have to coexist together. Each of them is a continuation of the other.
Game process
The project is great, but there is no such gameplay in beond, therefore the passage of the game will not be as interesting as in the same Heavy Rain. In this game, even taking into account the large number of game moments and tense scenes, the gameplay is very simple, like in borderlands or similar projects.
And, if we compare the endings of the game, the storyline and other moments, then in this story about a girl and a ghost there is no non-linearity. Here, any action and any decision will affect only the endings of the entire episode, but not in any way the ending of the game. Therefore, the gameplay in this game on ps3 and a computer can be described with the simple term "imaginary freedom".
Imaginary freedom
So, the whole point of the gameplay is that the player will have to walk from active point A to point B and engage in activating events. Fortunately, some of these events can be skipped, and all that the user loses in this case is a small scene, the time and date of the beginning of which in the game is determined again by the developers.
As for the QTE moments, they decided to get rid of them in order to replace them with jerking the sticks in the necessary directions and frantically pressing certain buttons. And it could have broken the whole game if not for the delivery. The action scenes in the game are high quality and impressive. True, there are few of them in the game. More and more everyday moments, dinner and simple walks.
The other side of the imaginary freedom is the demands on Aiden. The user can periodically control this creature, but only now it cannot go further than 2 or even 3 meters from Jody. And all the steps, as in the same project by Nathan Drake, were calculated by game designers.
That is, there are two or three points, several people (this can even be homeless citizens) and objects with which the disembodied one can interact - and this is where the freedom of the disembodied creature ends.
The developers will not explain why it is possible to pass through the doors, but not through the walls. Or, for example, why the spirit can settle in one, but not in the other. Thus, there is a final exit point, to which the player will be led by the hand for all 10 hours of gameplay. This is how long the game will last. This is not even a joint walkthrough and not an open world - the order of the developers reigns here and just a linear storyline.
Graphics
If you list the achievements of the game, then the description of the graphics is one of them. Each frame of the game suggests that the player is in front of an almost real movie. Excellent detail, saturation and even photorealism. How it turned out to be done on ps3 is still a mystery. Music is also not lagging behind, so the final atmosphere, if you do not pay attention to the freedom and linear plot, is at its best.
Pros and cons
pros
- Each chapter of the game is literally euphoria for a creative soul and eyes - the visual component is at its best;
- The play of the main characters, and these are real actors, is convincing and breaks through to emotions;
- Excellent soundtrack;
- Some of the episodes were a success - both in history and in gameplay.
Minuses
- Storytelling is clearly not a strong point for this game;
- The supporting characters are static and boring;
- The gameplay is very conditional.
Output
As a result, the game was made as an excellent canvas, which they decided to tear into 10-20 pieces and throw out about 1/3 of them. All the other pieces, like a rock, were mixed and put in a monolith in a chaotic manner. And the result was Beyond: Two Souls. Fans of great pictures will love it. Lovers of high-quality plot and gameplay will not like it.
