Skyrim is the fifth RPG in The Elder Scrolls series, in which the user can install mods - special add-ons that add weapons, armor, buildings or quests.
Instructions
Step 1
Mod is short for modification. It is a separate file or several combined files that are installed directly into the game folder. Mods in Skyrim can be added in two ways: manually and automatically using a special program.
Step 2
To automatically install mods, you need the Nexus Mod Manager or NMM software. It can be downloaded after registration at skyrim.nexusmods.com. Install Nexus Mod Manager on your computer.
Step 3
Start the NMM program. On first launch, it should find the folder with The Elder Scrolls V Skyrim. If the program failed to do this automatically, manually specify the path to the game. Then a window will appear asking you to enter your username and password. Enter the data that you provided when registering on the website skyrim.nexusmods.com.
Step 4
In the running Nexus Mod Manager, select the Mods tab. It will reflect all the modifications you have installed in Skyrim. On the left pane, click on the first top button and select the mod to install in the dialog box that opens.
Step 5
Also in the left pane, click on the second button from the top. The mod should be installed in the game. Launch Skyrim by double-clicking on the Launch Skyrim icon. On the screen that opens, select the "Files" line and put a tick in the box next to the name of the installed mod. Run the game and check the installation result.
Step 6
When installing manually, you need to open the archive with the mod using the WinRar program. Mods in Skyrim are always installed in the Data folder. The path to the folder on the C drive for the licensed game looks like this C: / Program Files / Steam / steamapps / common / skyrim / data.
Step 7
All files contained in the mod must be copied to the corresponding game folders. Esp files are installed directly into the Data folder. Other files are unpacked depending on their content. If a window appears asking you to replace the file, click on OK.
Step 8
In total, in the Data section, the mod's content is divided into seven folders: Meshes - three-dimensional models, Misc - game sounds, Shaders - shader files, Sounds - music, Textures - textures, Voices - voice audio sounds, Animations - animation of game characters' movements. If you have not installed anything into the game yet, these folders will not be in the Data section. Just copy them from the installed mod. In the future, you will add files from new modifications to them.
Step 9
Open Skyrim through Launch Skyrim. In the files section, mark the newly installed mod with a tick and start the game.
