The Internet is a great ocean of information, where skilled fishermen are able to “fish out” more than one valuable “fish”. However, every lucky owner of programs, films, games and music can be "lucky" to catch a virus or run into scammers.
Since November 2, 1988, when the world's first network worm was created, now stored on a floppy disk in the Boston Museum of Science, the number of malicious programs on the Internet has reached hundreds of thousands. There is not a single server connected to the global web, not a single machine, not a single device connected to a common network that would be completely safe. You can only reduce the risks when downloading games from the network.
Internet games - danger or safety
Among the dangers that await users on the Internet when downloading games are some of the most common. Of course, methods of deceiving people or simply infecting computers are constantly being improved. Therefore, the classic ones are described here:
Trojan horse. It can be "attached" to the main executable file of the game, which poses a threat when it starts. If the antivirus misses such a file, and you run it, then it is possible that after that either your passwords to the necessary programs will be stolen, or the information will be irretrievably lost;
Fraudulent software. Sometimes, when installing a game on a computer, a window appears asking you to enter a phone number in order to install the program correctly. After entering, it turns out that a certain amount is debited from your balance in favor of an unknown well-wisher, and this does not affect the installation of the game in any way;
Lock your PC. This method has appeared relatively recently. When downloading or installing the game, the operating system is blocked with blackmail in the form of extortion of a certain amount of money using SMS to a specific number. Of course, no unlocking occurs after sending SMS.
How to secure your system as much as possible
It is good if you do not download games from the Internet, but purchase licensed copies of them in special stores. However, no user is immune from the temptation to “get everything here and now”, rather than go somewhere and specifically buy a game. And since this happens, you need to protect yourself from viruses and scammers.
Don't download games from unfamiliar resources. This is where PC infection occurs most often. More established sites monitor viral safety better than dark horses.
Be sure to install an antivirus and take care of keeping it up to date. And do not go to sites if the antivirus clearly shows that you need to stay away from them.
And the main thing. Do not use links to games from strangers.
