Forum is a web application that allows you to organize communication between visitors to a web resource on certain topics. The forums are very popular today. To install this application on your website, you just need to find a suitable script and customize it for yourself.
Necessary
- - forum script;
- - hosting with PHP and MySQL;
- - FTP client.
Instructions
Step 1
Choose the most suitable script for your purposes for installation on a hosting. There are a large number of free forums, among which it is worth noting phpBB, which has a large number of plugins and extensions that create unlimited possibilities for the site. However, the script is very demanding on server resources, and for most users this functionality may seem redundant, and therefore there are lighter forum engines - PunBB, SMF, xBB and intellect board.
Step 2
Download the selected engine and unpack the resulting archive to your computer. If you have a local Apache server installed, try installing the forum engine first on your computer in order to carefully examine the settings and test the script's functionality. To install, just place the unpacked files in the htdocs directory of the local server folder and go to the browser address https:// localhost / folder, where folder is the name of your folder where the forum files were placed. If the script uses a MySQL database to store data, don't forget to create it via phpMyAdmin.
Step 3
After testing, upload the script to your server via FTP using the hosting control panel or any FTP client installed on your computer. If the forum works with MySQL, don't forget to create a new database in your hosting control panel.
Step 4
Enter the address where the script is located on the server. You will be prompted to install and configure the basic parameters of the forum. Follow the instructions on the screen, enter the required parameters and wait until the files are modified. The installation of the forum is now complete.
Step 5
For further customization and optimization, use the documentation that comes with each script or is published on the official website of the program developer.
