Now decide on the size of the future avatar. If you expect to upload it to sites like Odnoklassniki, Vkontakte, My World, then it is better for you to make a rectangular picture, cutting off the extra edges, all in the same photo editor. Moreover, the rectangle should be greater in height than in width, and not vice versa. If the avatar is designed for ordinary forums, and not for social networks, then it is better to reduce it to the standard size of 128x128 (and sometimes up to 64x64).
