FTP (File Transfer Protocol) is a data transfer protocol that allows you to connect to servers, view and download information stored on them. This protocol appeared long before the usual HTTP for all Internet users, but still has not lost its relevance. It is quite simple to create an ftp server, it can be organized even on the basis of a regular computer.

Step 1
The FTP protocol is very convenient for viewing the file structure of a remote computer, it makes it easy to find the files you need. It is no coincidence that many "heavy" programs and disk images are often offered to be downloaded via ftp. If you want to share your files with someone, you can create your own ftp server.
Step 2
The easiest way to create such a server is based on the components available in Windows 7. The only condition is that you must have an installation disk, since by default the ftp server is not installed during OS installation. Insert the disc into the drive, close the window that appears. Open: "Start" - "Control Panel" - "Programs and Features". A window will open, select "Turn Windows features on or off."
Step 3
In the next window that opens, find "Internet Information Services", expand this list. In it, expand the "FTP Server" list. Check the "FTP Service" checkbox. Now, in the already mentioned IIS list, find the Web Site Management Tools list. Expand it, check the IIS Management Console checkbox and click OK. Windows will install the selected components.
Step 4
Now configure your installed ftp server. Open: "Control Panel" - "System and Security" - "Administrative Tools" - "Computer Management". In the window that opens, expand the "Services and Applications" group and open the "Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager". In the "Connections" window, select the "Sites" folder. On the right, in the Actions window, click on Add FTP Site.
Step 5
In the "Site Information" window that opens, specify the name of the site to be created and its location. By default, its path is C: inetpubftproot. Click Next. In the next window, specify the binding and SSL parameters. Binding: "All free", port 21. SSL section - "Without SSL". Click "Next", in the next window do not touch anything, just click "Finish". The site has been created.
Step 6
Now configure Windows Firewall. Open: "Control Panel" - "System and Security" - "Windows Firewall" - "Advanced Settings". Find "Inbound Rules" and enable "FTP Server (Inbound Traffic)" and "FTP Server Passive (FTP Passive Traffic-In)". You have opened 21 ports for incoming connections and specified a port range of 1023-65535 for passive mode.
Step 7
Find the section "Rules for outgoing connection", activate "FTP Server (FTP Traffic-Out)". You have opened port 20 for outgoing connections. Now any user can connect using your ip-address to the ftp server you created, view and download the files located on it. Optionally, you can configure password access by creating new users in the Local Users and Groups section.
