Windows computers come with the standard Microsoft Internet Explorer browser, Mac computers with the Apple Safari browser. These browsers, or web browsing clients, are the default browsers and are notoriously inferior to many competitors in terms of website loading speed.
Instructions
Step 1
Popular browsers such as Mozilla Firefox, Opera and Google Chrome are self-installed by the user. But here's the bad luck: when launching shortcuts to web pages or when opening saved pages, as well as when clicking on hyperlinks in documents, sites still open in a standard browser. How do you set a new browser as the default browser?
When you first start a browser, be it Chrome or Opera, or any other web browser, you will see a notification in the main window that prompts you to set this browser as default with the answer options "Yes" and "Cancel". Select "Yes" and all functions of the web browser on this operating system will be delegated to this browser.
Step 2
If you clicked "Cancel" when you first start the browser, i.e. missed the first step, don't despair. In this case, go to "Start", "Control Panel", select small or large icons and find the item "Default Programs".
Step 3
You will be presented with a window for delegating authority for software - "Select programs used by Windows by default". Choose the very first link "Setting default programs" and wait for the installed applications to load.
Step 4
In the narrow block on the left you will find the installed browser, click on it once. You will now see two buttons below, marked with green arrows. First click on "Use this program as default", then "Select defaults for this program". You will go to a new window in which you need to check all extensions and protocols, then click "Save" and in the previous window - "OK".
This is where the default browser is installed.
