Many were surprised to find the familiar cloud drive from Microsoft under the new name OneDrive. Why did this happen? Are there any new features in OneDrive that are useful to the user? Or maybe we will be given free gigabytes, which developers often give in such cases?

The renaming took place in execution of the judgment. The British Sky Broadcasting Group won from Microsoft. Therefore, the word Sky had to be removed from the disc name. It's funny that the word One is also among the names of the services of the British company - Sky One.

OneDrive is in line with Microsoft's new vision of the cloud storage role. In addition to increasing further integration with Windows desktop devices with OneDrive, a major step has been taken towards mobile platforms. In particular, now there is a full-fledged Android client, which even implements uploading photos in the "Film" mode (a mode similar to the "Camera" mode of other cloud storages). OneDrive is also an essential component of the Office Mobile Android apps.

In addition to ephemeral promises of some future benefits, users can receive an additional 20 GB to compensate for possible problems with renaming a cloud drive. However, this is only for a year and only for individual users.
But 3 GB is given to everyone who uploads photos using the "Film" mode. And 500 MB for each user you invite. The general limit of free space that can be obtained in this way is 8 GB: 3 GB for "film" and 5 GB for invitees.
