Step 1
Start by choosing a specific application. Almost any program similar to ICQ is suitable for installation on a laptop running under the Windows operating system. The most common clients are ICQ Lite, QIP and Miranda.
Step 2
It is worth noting that there are quite a few different assemblies of the last specified program. If you are using a comparatively weak laptop that does not offer high performance, choose the least demanding application, such as QIP 2005.
Step 3
Turn on your laptop and establish an internet connection. Open the website www.icq.com and click the Download ICQ button. Wait for the download of the installation file to complete. Open it and install the program, choosing the options and add-ons you need.
Step 4
If you want to use another client, go to www.qip.ru. Click the Download qip button. Follow the steps described in the previous step to install the program. To eliminate errors that may arise during the installation process, extract the files from the archive before running them.
Step 5
To download the Miranda client go to www.miranda-im.org/download. Select the version of the program based on the name and type of operating system you are using. Please note that only the original client should be used for 64-bit operating systems.
Step 6
After the installation of the selected application is completed, open it by double-clicking on the shortcut on the desktop. Fill out the authorization form, indicating your UIN and password to it. Adjust the program parameters. Typically, users only change the graphical interface.
Step 7
The capabilities of the Miranda application allow you to almost completely remake the program for convenient work with it. Keep in mind that there are other alternative clients such as Trillian and SIM.
