The fifth game of the legendary The Elder Scrolls series, Skyrim, invites players to plunge even deeper into the fantasy world of the Nirn universe. Here you can not only explore the beautiful northern lands, join one of the warring parties, fight evil spirits, but also engage in more mundane activities: working at a sawmill, cooking, making weapons and even building a house. More precisely, the ability to build your own house is added when installing The Elder Scrolls V: Hearthfire add-on.
How to buy a home lot in Skyrim
Purchase and install the Hearthfire add-on for The elder scrolls: skyrim. This can be done using an installation disc purchased from the store, or by downloading the add-on directly through the game's official website, through the Playstation Store or Xbox Live if you are playing on a console.
Launch the game and send your character to one of the following cities: Falkreath (located in the south, near the border of the province of Cyrodiil), Dawnstar (located on the northern coast of Skyrim, east of the capital of Solitude), or Morthal (among the swamps in the central part of the province).
Go to the jarl's house and find the manager. Talk to him - in the dialogue it will be possible to declare that you want to build a house. For this, five thousand gold coins will be taken away from you, so you need to take care in advance to accumulate the required amount of money. If there are important unfinished quests in the city, the manager will ask you to complete these tasks before buying land for the house.
If you bought land in one city, and then changed your mind and decided to live in another, don't worry - if you have enough money, you can build houses in all three cities.
After the conversation with the manager is completed, you will have a new quest, the first task of which is to reach the purchased site. Follow the arrow on the compass and find a plot prepared for construction: it will contain a drafting table, a chest with materials and a carpenter's workbench, on which lies the book "Instructions for newcomers to housebuilding". Read the book - it will give you a new house building skill.
How to build a house
Use a drawing table to build a house. The house is being built in parts, for a start you can build a "Little House", to which are attached a library, a kitchen, an alchemist's room, bedrooms, a trophy room. The construction will require resources: wood, clay, stone. For a small house, the materials on the site are enough, but as they expand, they will need to be mined additionally.
Wood can be bought at any Skyrim sawmill, clay can be found on the site or in the surrounding area - it is a reddish earth that is mined like ore with a pickaxe. You also need to look for stones outside the city, in the mountains.
After building the house, go inside, where there will be a joiner's workbench - it can be used to furnish and decorate the house. If you have enough materials, you can craft various pieces of furniture, as well as an alchemy table, an enchant table, decorative candlesticks, chests and much more.
In the area around the new house, it will be possible to breed animals or grow vegetables. You will also have to protect the new home from the attacks of giant rats or giants.
