The Ping utility, which is part of the standard Microsoft Windows toolkit, is commonly used to check the availability of a computer over a network. Verification consists of sending an ICMP echo message and receiving an ICMP echo response. The default settings for Windows Firewall prohibit receiving echoes.
Instructions
Step 1
Click the "Start" button to bring up the main menu of the system and go to "Control Panel" to perform the Ping operation from the graphical interface of the Microsoft Windows operating system.

Select "Network and Sharing Center" and expand the link "Sharing and Network Discovery".
Step 3
Select Network Discovery and enable File Sharing.
Step 4
Return to the main Start menu and go to Settings to perform a Ping operation using Advanced Firewall Mode.

Select the "Control Panel" item and expand the "Administrative Tools" link.

Select Windows Firewall with Advanced Security and go to the Inbound Rules section.

Expand the New Rule link and specify Custom in the radio button values.
Step 8
Click the Next button and select the All Programs value in the radio button values.

Click the Next button and go to Protocol Type: ICMPv4.

Select the "ICMP Protocol Settings" section and click the "Configure" button.

Select the radio button for Defined ICMP Types and apply the check box to the Echo Request field.

Click the OK button to execute the command and confirm the application of the selected changes by clicking the Next button.

Specify the desired IP addresses or leave them as default and select "Allow the connection".

Click the Next button and specify the selected profile to use the created rule.

Click the Next button and enter a name and description in the appropriate fields (optional).

Click the "Finish" button to confirm the application of the selected changes.

Return to the main Start menu and go to Run to perform a Ping resolution operation using the command line tool.

Enter netsh firewall set icmpsetting 8 in the Open field and press Enter to confirm the command.
