The wireless security key is the main tool for securing the connection. Configuring and re-encoding this key deserves special attention in order to exclude any possibility for unauthorized people to intercept the network signal.
Instructions
Step 1
Select the "Network Settings" section. To do this, in the Windows 7 operating system, on the desktop, click the "Start" button and in the main menu that appears, go to the "Control Panel" item to configure the security key for the wireless Wi-Fi network. In the search box, enter the word "network" and click the "Find" button.
Step 2
Click on "Network and Sharing Center" and then go to "Set up a connection or network" and follow the link "Network settings". Run the Network Setup Wizard tool to set up a confidential wireless network and click Next.
Step 3
Fill in the desired values in the fields with the name of the wireless network and the password of the security key and remember them. Check the box next to the "Connect automatically" line.
Step 4
Go to the Security Level dropdown list. It is recommended to select WPA2-Personal (Wi-Fi Protected Access). This secure access encrypts communications between the access point and the computer using a security key. The key is a passphrase. In the "Encryption type" menu, you should specify AES (Advanced Encryption Standard) - a standard for symmetric block encryption. After setup, proceed further.
Step 5
Select "Connect to a wireless network manually" when you close the Network Setup Wizard window. On the "Enter the wireless network information to add" page that appears, in the "Security Type" item, specify the WEP (Wired Equivalent Privacy) algorithm. Fill in the rest of the required information.
Step 6
Click on the "Change connection settings" button and open the "Security" tab. In a new window, apply the checkbox on the "General" item in the "Security Type" group. Confirm your settings with the "OK" button and close the window.
