Hard drives can be locked in Windows without the involvement of additional software by standard means of the system itself. This operation increases the security level of your computer and excludes the possibility of making changes to the files of locked drives.
Instructions
Step 1
Call the main system menu by clicking the "Start" button and go to the "Control Panel" item. Expand the Device Manager link and select the drive to be locked in the directory. Use the Driver tab and click the Disable button.
Step 2
Call the context menu of the "My Computer" desktop element by right-clicking and selecting the "Control" command. Open the Disk Management link in the dialog box that opens and open the context menu of the volume to be locked by right-clicking. Specify the command "Change drive letter" and use the "Delete" option in the next dialog box.
Step 3
Call the context menu of the volume to be locked by right-clicking and selecting Properties. Go to the "Security" tab of the dialog box that opens and use the "Edit" button. Specify the "All" option in the catalog and confirm your choice by pressing the OK button. Click the Add button and enter the values for the names of the accounts that you are ready to grant access to the selected drive. Confirm the execution of the selected action by clicking the OK button.
Step 4
Return to the main system menu "Start" to use the most radical method of locking the selected disk and go to the "Run" dialog. Enter the value regedit in the "Open" line and confirm the launch of the registry editor utility by clicking the OK button.
Step 5
Expand the HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrentVersionPoliciesExplorer branch and create a new string parameter named NoViewOnDrive. Open the created key by double-clicking the mouse and assign the required value to lock the disk: - 1 - for volume A; - 4 - C; - 8 - D; - 16 - E; - 32 - F; - 64 - G; - 128 - H Confirm your choice by clicking OK and exit the editor. Apply the changes made by rebooting the system.
