When you access the Internet, your ISP assigns your computer a personal identifier on the network - an IP address (Internet Protocol Address). Usually, to navigate the network, you do not need to know this address, but sometimes it becomes necessary to unambiguously identify your computer or, on the contrary, disguise it. In such cases, it becomes necessary to find out your IP address.

Instructions

Step 1

IP is four numbers, each in the range from 0 to 255, separated by dots - XXX. XXX. XXX. XXX. You can see it by running the ipconfig utility from the Windows OS. To do this, press the WIN + R key combination, type cmd in the window that opens and press Enter. As a result, a command line terminal will start, in the window of which you need to type ipconfig / all. You will receive not only the value of the IP address of the computer, but also additional details of your computer's Internet connection.

Step 2

There is another option - in the Windows operating system, in the "Start" button menu, go to the "Settings" section and select the "Network Connections" item. In the window that opens, right-click the shortcut of your Internet connection and select "Status". In the connection status window on the "Support" tab you will see your IP address.

Step 3

However, if a computer is a part of a local network, then it has two such addresses - one is issued by the local server for identification in the internal network, and the second identifies the computer on the Internet. Moreover, this external IP-address will most likely be the same for all computers on the local network. It is this external address that interests us, but the problem is that the methods described above will not be able to find it out, you can only see the internal IP of the computer in the local network. In this case, the easiest way is to get the necessary information directly on the Internet. Fortunately, there are tons of sites that will lay out the whole truth not only about your IP address, but also about the type of browser, your geographic location, screen resolution and a bunch of other details. All this information is sent along with the request for the web pages you want. This method of determining your IP is universal - it is suitable for computers connected to a local network and for accessing the Internet on their own.
