A local area network is a connection between several computers with one cable. Installing a local network allows you to quickly exchange information between computers, as well as create backup copies of files on a third-party hard drive in case one of them breaks down.

Step 1

Determine the tasks to be performed using the local network. To work in an office with 10-20 computers that must be interconnected, it will be enough to install a 100-megabit network. If you need to transfer large amounts of data, install a gigabit local area network.

Step 2

In addition to computers, a printer can be connected to the network. To do this, install a print server that will open access to the printer for all network members. In this case, the printer will not depend on any particular computer and its speed.

Step 3

If all workstations with computers and peripheral equipment are in the same room, then distribute them evenly. This will allow all equipment to be connected to one switch.

Step 4

If computers will be located in several offices, then consider how to correctly place cables and network equipment. For each room, you will need to purchase one switch and one more, which will be unifying. This will eliminate the need to pull the cable to one node.

Step 5

At each workplace, install one informational one for every 6-10 square meters of area. The switch and patch panels must be located in the wiring closet. This cabinet protects equipment from dust, possible mechanical damage, electromagnetic fields.

Step 6

Route the cables from the wiring closet to the outlets. Such placement of the local network provides unhindered access for servicing various elements. It also makes it possible to quickly dismantle the equipment with the possible transfer of the local network to another room, if such a need arises.

Step 7

Install an uninterruptible power supply for all equipment on the network. This safety measure is necessary because the entire network may fail if there is a voltage drop.
