When launching some games, especially older ones, black stripes may appear on the sides of the screen. This is due to the fact that the game is designed for a different resolution, and there is no way to change it in the settings. In this case, you can remove the stripes using some drivers and programs.
Instructions
Step 1
Right-click on your computer desktop. Select "Screen Resolution". A window appears showing the monitor specifications and image orientation. Click on the extension button and use the slider to set a lower value than is currently set. If you know what parameters the game requires, then try setting them. Click the "Apply" and "OK" button.
Step 2
Download the latest version of Catalyst Center and install it on your computer if you have an ATI brand graphics card. Right-click on the desktop and launch the Catalyst Control Center application. In the window that appears, select the section "My built-in screens", then go to "Properties" and check the item "Full screen". Click the "Apply" button located in the lower right corner of the program window. After that, right-click on the desktop again and open "Screen Resolution", then set the value of the resolution to its original position.
Step 3
Launch the context menu by right-clicking on the desktop and select "Nvidia Control Panel" if you have a graphics card of this brand. Go to the "Display" section and select "Adjust Position Size", then click on "Use Nvidia Scaling" and save the settings. And revert back to the old screen resolution.
Step 4
Start the game in which it was necessary to remove the black stripes on the sides. If they are still present, then repeat the above procedure, but with a different resolution. It is also worth checking the version of the installed drivers. If they are outdated, then it is recommended to run the update.
Step 5
Go to the "Update Center" of the Windows 7 operating system and check the box next to the appropriate item and click the "Update" button. If you are using another version of Windows or another OS, then you need to remove the old drivers and install the new ones. You can do this in the "Device Manager".
