The depth sensor is an infrared projector combined with a light sensor. This enables the Kinect sensor to capture a three-dimensional image of a moving user in natural and artificial room lighting. A special program and a depth range sensor automatically calibrate the sensors based on the conditions of the game and such parameters as furniture in the room, people who are not taking part in the game, and pets freely moving around the room.

Step 3

A Kinect infrared projector overlays an invisible grid of dots in front of the device. The distance to the points is read by the sensor 30 times per second and transmitted to the console, so the Kinect is able to capture minor movements and even facial expressions of the user.

Step 4

When the user moves in front of the screen, the sensor reads information, which is then processed by the programs of the Xbox 360 console. This is a rather energy-intensive process that consumes 10-15% of the processor's power. Color streaming video with a resolution of 640x480 pixels and a frequency of 30 frames per second and monochrome video, which is responsible for the image depth, are processed. The sound entering the sensor microphone is also processed.

For the Kinect sensor, a special line of games has been developed in which the control takes place by the movement of the user's body.
