Some Internet users may use the mailbox exclusively for communication, but another part may use it for work, etc. In addition, it is to the email address that notifications with various passwords from web resources, logins and other information are received. Naturally, if the user has no desire to share his secret data (or even money from an electronic wallet) with an attacker, then the mailbox must be well secured.
First, it should be noted that people do not always break into mailboxes in order to somehow harm a person. Sometimes this is done just for the sake of "sports interest", that is, in this case, the hacker will not cause any harm (will not change the password, will not delete some important information), but on the contrary, inform the owner that his email is poorly protected. Unfortunately, it is simply impossible to be 100% protected from hacking. If desired, the attacker will find any way to obtain the necessary information (for example, using brute force).
Strong password
In order to maximally protect your mailbox from hacking, first of all, you need to put a strong password, which will consist of numbers, letters and various characters. The most common mistake most users make is just this - for their own convenience, a simple password is composed of a combination of several simple numbers (for example, 12345) or letters (for example, qwerty). Even if a very complex password was invented, which cannot be simply guessed, then you do not need to use it absolutely everywhere. Such actions will reduce protection to zero, since by guessing the password once, the attacker will be able to gain access to all the user's resources at once. In addition, you should not store passwords on your computer or in your browser and never store them in the form of transmitted messages (such data can easily be stolen by an attacker using a Trojan program).
Secret question - answer
Every email owner knows that when registering, you need to enter a secret question and answer. In this case, you need to remember that it is best to choose the simplest question, but come up with an answer that will have nothing to do with the question (the most important thing is to remember the answer if the password is forgotten). In this case, the attacker will not be able to find the right option or in any way find it out from the user himself.
Social engineering
Do not forget even about such primitive trifles as not to share your data with anyone. Attackers are very cunning people and using social engineering tools can politely ask the user to provide their data. For example, one of the most popular methods is a letter that looks like the following: “Hello, this is the Administration of the https://site.ru service. We are conducting a massive (next comes a super complicated, incomprehensible word) users. You just need to follow this link and enter your personal data ….
Do not forget to install an antivirus that will block Trojans, use a firewall, and as a result, it will be quite difficult for attackers to find out any confidential user information.
