Setting up protection for your own Wi-Fi network is, of course, a very important stage in its configuration. To ensure the proper level of security, you must use the maximum number of levels of network protection.
It is necessary
- - Wi-Fi router;
- - notebook.
Instructions
Step 1
If your wireless network was created using a Wi-Fi router, then open the settings menu of this device. Establish a connection with this network equipment. To do this, use a LAN cable or Wi-Fi channel.
Step 2
Open your internet browser. Fill in the url field with the router's IP address. Press the Enter key. Enter your username and password, click the Connect or Log In button. Open the Wireless Connection Setup or Wi-Fi menu.
Step 3
Find the Authentication Type or Wireless Secure Mode field. Select the type of security. Use relatively newer protocols such as WPA2-PSK if mobile devices are capable of connecting to networks with these settings.
Step 4
Find the Network Key or Network Key field. Enter the password for this wireless network in it. Use a combination of numbers, symbols and Latin letters to prevent quick password guessing.
Step 5
Save the Wireless Setup menu options and click the Mac Table tab. Click the Add button and enter the MAC address of the wireless adapter of the desired mobile device. If we are talking about a laptop, then open the "Start" menu and select "Run". Type cmd in the new field and press Enter. After starting the command line, enter ipconfig / all and press Enter again. Find the value of the MAC-address of the Wi-Fi adapter and enter it in the settings menu of the router. After that, activate the Check MAC-address item and save the specified parameters.
Step 6
Change the data required to gain access to the router's Wi-Fi settings. If someone comes up with a password for your wireless network, it's only half the trouble. Hacking the router itself may result in you having to completely reconfigure the device. Don't use simple password combinations if you want to keep your Wi-Fi network secure.
