The reasons why the browser receives a 404 (Not found) error when working with sites on the Internet can be caused both by the incorrect operation of the site itself, and by user errors when creating a request or using a link.

Instructions
Step 1
First of all, it should be noted that the receipt by the browser of the 404 (Not found) error cannot be associated with problems with the Internet connection or with a malfunction of the equipment. A 404 error is sent by the server (which hosts the site) if no information is found on the link provided by the user, or the user does not have access to the specified part of the server.
Step 2
Pay attention to the most common causes of the 404 error: the page requested by the user's link or the file has been moved or deleted on the server, an incorrect link or a link with errors, the requested content has been blocked by regulatory authorities, the user does not have access rights to this area of the server.
Step 3
Check the spelling of the link - first of all, you should check for extra punctuation marks. The link must not end with any punctuation characters, except for the forward slash (/).
Step 4
If you copy a link from an e-mail or document, make sure to fully copy the address. Often, links contain more characters than will fit on one line of a letter or document.
Step 5
Make sure to match the case of the letters used in the link. Consider uppercase and lowercase letters - not registering at least one letter can lead to a 404 error.
Step 6
If the text of the link was typed by you or those who sent it to you, manually, check if there is a mismatch in the character language. Often, links come across letters from the Cyrillic alphabet, while the text should be written in the Latin alphabet. Better just rewrite the text of the link, since it is almost impossible to distinguish between Russian and English "a", "e", "c", "p", "M", "o", "O".
Step 7
If the above methods did not have an effect, go to a higher level in the server hierarchy, for which remove characters from the end of the link until the next slash (/) This will allow you to move higher in the server hierarchy and, possibly, find the link or location you are looking for the content you are looking for.
Step 8
Check the availability of an archived copy of the requested resource on the Internet. To do this, use the Internet Archive Wayback Machine.
Step 9
If none of the above methods helped, then most likely the link used is not working. In addition, on some sites there are unusual 404 error pages with images or additional messages for the user, which may differ from the "default" page, but the functionality of such pages remains the same.
