You should use an analog modem to connect to the Internet only if you have a landline phone with a Moscow number and an unlimited tariff. In this case, you can connect to the global network for free through the modem pool of the Intellin provider. The transfer speed will not exceed 56 kb / s, and the phone will be busy while browsing the Internet. In all other cases, you will have to pay for the time during which the modem interacted with the provider's equipment, which is unprofitable.
Step 2
This can be avoided when connecting via an ADSL channel. In this case, the signal is transmitted over the same telephone line, but at high frequencies, without interfering with the operation of telephones. With a relatively low cost of an unlimited tariff, the data transfer speed can reach several megabits per second. If you choose a tariff where the speed is artificially lowered to 1 Mb / s (which is quite enough, for example, for YouTube), you will have to pay even less. And having bought a modem with a built-in router, you can distribute the bandwidth of the channel to several machines located in the same apartment.
Step 3
Fans of higher speeds will have to connect to the network via a dedicated Ethernet line. This is noticeably more expensive than via ADSL, but it will allow, for example, downloading a very large Linux distribution in just a few minutes. To connect in this way, you will have to run a second cable into the apartment, as well as ensure effective protection of your computer not only from malicious programs, as with other methods of accessing the Internet, but also from intranet attacks.

In the past, when accessing the Internet via a mobile phone or USB modem, you had to pay for each megabyte of data received or transmitted. Unlimited tariffs were not available to everyone. Then their cost plummeted to a value halfway between ADSL and dedicated Ethernet. A certain amount of data per hour, day or month (depending on the operator) can be downloaded at a speed of up to 2 Mb / s, and then it drops to 32 or 64 kb / s and remains so until the end of the above period. For CDMA access, it is always 64 kb / s.
Step 5
Mobile Internet access via WiMax is several times more expensive than a similar service provided via GPRS, 3G or CDMA. But the speed is almost the same as that of a dedicated Ethernet channel. If you are ready to spend a monthly amount for the Internet, comparable to the cost of a large flash drive, and also intend to use the global network only within the city, this option is for you.
