A webcam is a device that connects to the USB port of a computer and allows real-time video recording. It also allows you to take pictures and use video telephony.
Instructions
Step 1
Open the camera package. If it is a blister, cut it carefully to avoid damaging the camera, disc, cable, and manual. Take out the camera and remove the piece of wire from its cord.
Step 2
Install the camera in a convenient location. If necessary, glue it using the adhesive on the stand (if available).
Step 3
Connect the camera to an available USB port on your computer.
Step 4
If you are using Linux operating system, start the xawtv program. If the car already has a TV tuner, in this program select the webcam as the signal source. Remember that working with webcams in Linux is somewhat less organized than with tuners. However, if you find that the camera is not working, do not rush to change it to another one. Give it a second chance - update the distribution and it might work. Some cameras that turned out to be incompatible with xawtv work well with another program - camorama.
Step 5
Windows does not have built-in webcam tools. Install the program on the computer from the disc supplied with the device. If the disc is not included, go to the camera manufacturer's website and download the appropriate software. Remember that finding software for some camera models can be so difficult that you only have to work with it on Linux.
Step 6
Once you get the camera working, learn how to use all the features of your chosen program. Learn how to save pictures, record videos.
Step 7
Install a video calling software such as Skype. Select the correct webcam in it. Start chatting with your friends.
Step 8
Pay attention to the LED status of the camera. On some of them, it glows only when the camera is filming (find out from the instructions). In this case, if you are not using the camera and the LED is on, this may be a sign of viruses on the machine. Face the camera against the wall or cover it when not in use.
