The ability to view the source code of various sites can be very useful when creating a site yourself. You can see the HTML code using special settings and additional browser extensions, as well as programs for viewing text files.

Necessary

  • - browser program;
  • - a notepad program.

Instructions

Step 1

Find the "Site source code" menu item in your browser. For example, in Mozilla Firefox it can be found in the "Web Development" section, which is located in the "Tools" item of the main menu, and in the Internet Explorer browser, the html code view is called from the "View" item of the main menu. Go to the site whose code you would like to study. After the page loads, select the Site Source Tool. The program will display a special window in which you will see the code. If the page content is displayed incorrectly, try changing the encoding.

Step 2

The standard browser functions can be extended with a plugin. Often on the program developer's site, you can find an extension that allows you to view the site's code. For example, the plug-in for Mozilla Firefox is called Firebug, for the Opera browser - DragonFly. Download and install the plugin. You may need to restart your browser. Next, go to the desired site. Click on the button to call the plug-in console - it can be located on one of the program's work panels - after which an additional window will appear, in which the source code of the open page will be displayed.

Step 3

Save the required pages of the site using the appropriate browser function. To do this, click on the main menu item "File" and select the inscription "Save as". Choose a location on your computer where you will save a copy of the page. Then, from the drop-down menu titled "Save as type", select either "Web Page, Entirely" or "Web Page, HTML Only." Click on "Save". Repeat the procedure with all the necessary pages of the Internet resource. Open the folder where the files were saved. Select one of the pages and run it using notepad. You can use the "Notepad" utility installed in the Windows operating system, but it is better to download the more convenient Notepad ++ program. It has a function to separate different types of html tags by color.
