There are many add-ons for the IL-2 Sturmovik game. So I decided to continue my series of articles on this game. Here I will tell you how to take off without difficulty and how to land, as well as how to save the life of your virtual pilot, even if the plane is thoroughly damaged, and it is too late to jump. The article is intended for non-advanced players, but I think that this information would be of interest to veterans of this game as well.
It is necessary
The same as last time: a computer, a game "IL-2 Sturmovik" on the "Forgotten Battles" engine (the "Platinum Collection" is also possible), a laser mouse (just not on batteries !!!), a lot of free time, patience and nerves
Instructions
Step 1
Takeoff.
With takeoff, it seems, everything is simple … Although you have to grin your teeth thoroughly, trying to keep the plane on the runway. It's all about the engine torque. If you have already tried to take off on the Mistel in one of the separate missions, then you probably felt it - the “whatnot” strives to plow the airfield and take off with it and the flight of “messengers” flying by. To prevent this from happening, you need to wield a vertical rudder. Of course, you can set the trims, but for this you have to assign keys in the game settings, and trim is not so easy to deal with. There is an easier way. Check the following items in the control settings: "Rudder left", "Rudder center", "Rudder right". Assign the "," "buttons to these actions." "/" respectively. In the "Difficulty" menu, set "Easy" and manually switch the toggle switches "Takeoff-Landing", "Vulnerability", "Realistic Landing". Now we go to "Separate tasks" and choose any task we like (just not taking off from an aircraft carrier - this is high poetry for us as Goette!). We go in and start (key i). Typically, most motors rotate the propeller shaft clockwise relative to the pilot, so the aircraft will drift to the right. Turn on the appearance with the F2 button. We release the flaps (press "v" twice). We bring the engine to full speed (hold =) and hold down the "," button with the index finger of the right hand (right!). The steering wheel will slowly tilt to the left and will not return to its original position. Once the plane is level, press "." and go back to controlling the plane. If the end of the strip is near, and your "piece of duralumin" has not yet come off the strip, then help it with horizontal rudders. While in the air, wait until your aircraft clearly starts to turn its nose up, and remove the landing gear. Then gradually fold in the flaps (the "F" button, with a single press, retracts the flaps one position (except for some aircraft that have only the landing position of the flaps)). Here you are in the sky! It was takeoff. Now consider the landing.
Step 2
Landing at the airfield.
This is where the good old "Simple Editor" comes in handy. We go into the editor, immediately remove the anti-aircraft guns in the "Defense" item, in the "Target" item, select "Airfields". You don't need to change anything else!.. except for the plane, of course.
We choose any card, except for "Crimea". Why? Try to get close to the enemy airfield on this map, and a dozen tanks, several anti-aircraft cannons and machine guns will force your plane to make an emergency landing;) If you have vision problems or you have difficulty distinguishing shades of white, then I do not recommend the "Moscow-winter" map either - you risk not finding the airfield at all! The "Okinawa" card is ideal, but someone does not have it, so we will study in the metropolitan area of Smolensk. Now we need an airplane with sturdy landing gear. I have practically proved that these are all models of Ju-87, Il-2, Italian aircraft CR.42, G.55, MC 202, MC 205, Gladiator Mk. I, various Sifires and Spitfires.
So, departure. Your plane is about five kilometers from the enemy airfield, on which we will land. We will do this using the same second-person view F2. The strip is located perpendicular to our course. We turn left (at least my lane is to the right of the plane). We follow the strip with the mouse. As soon as it caught up with us, we sharply turn on it with a decrease and reset the engine thrust to 30%. We release the flaps to the landing position (three Vs), use the rudders to align the aircraft along the runway. Now we monitor the speed. For Junkers, Spitfires and Seafires, it must be at least 180 km / h and not more than 220 km / h. For IL-2, the permissible landing speed is about 170-220 km / h. It is better not to take risks with the "Italians" and keep the speed at about 200 kilometers per hour. For Gladiators, the landing speed should be in the range of 150-200 km / h. Gently pull the aircraft up with the elevators as it descends. If the plane starts to "fall through" and from your manipulations with the rudder its wings leave a contrail, urgently add gas with the button =. If, on the contrary, your plane stubbornly pokes its nose into the sky, slightly lower the throttle with the - button. You should fly well above the runway. For 500 meters before the start of the runway, release the landing gear (not necessary for Junkers and CR;)) and let the aircraft lower its nose. Aim at the beginning of the runway and level the plane to the horizon as you get closer. Finally, your clunker will touch the stripe with the shasis. Then set the engine thrust to zero and keep the airplane on the runway using the vertical rudder. When he lowers his tail, hold down the "down arrow" - raised rudders will slow down the movement of the aircraft. This, of course, is an ideal landing, but in our case the plane can "give a goat" more than the NSV "Cliff" machine gun! When the plane bounces, sharply lower its nose, and then sharply align. If you are lucky, the plane will no longer bounce, and if you are not lucky … It will not jump for sure!
Step 3
Bonus - emergency landing;) Landing on the ground.
In the "Simple editor" we put down the same values (if you left the game), but in the "Objective" column we select "No". Now we are interested in aircraft with sturdy hulls - choose one from the list. I can recommend the following aircraft: P-39, I-153, LaGG-3 (not RD only), Supermarine Spitfair Mk. V, TB-3, Bf-110, Bf-109Z, MiG-3, Ju-87, CR. 42, Il-2, Pe-2.
The list is far from complete, these are the planes on which I myself have repeatedly and successfully made emergency landing on the landing gear (!). It should be noted that the I-153 and CR.42 after the "goat" without the participation of the engine is almost impossible to land on the chassis, they also have another unpleasant feature - after touching the chassis of any significant unevenness of the landscape during the run, plow the ground with the nose, the IL-2 often breaks the steering wheel from a jump, the Junkers have extremely strong landing gear struts and rigid shock absorbers (if any), the P-39 has an "unconventional" steering wheel arrangement - it is located in the nose of the aircraft, as on modern fighters, in the Bf-110, if it sits on its belly, the first thing the engines light up and jump out of the nacelles. If the engines fired up, but did not fall out, then you should immediately get out of the plane (for those who do not know yet, press Ctrl and E at the same time). The same applies to all other aircraft.
So, press "Departure" and immediately turn off the engine (or engines). Using the second person view, we are looking for a clean and spacious lawn (exactly a lawn, not a potato field !!!). We plan in a circle, targeting a convenient landing spot. If you are above the river, then try to land closer to the water, as further from the coast the landscape rises above the river valley, and to land at this angle you need to be a real ace. To release the chassis or not to release - here it is at your discretion. However, "Shtukas", the Italian biplane and TB-3 will not leave you a choice;) We level out on the horizon and release the flaps to the landing position. Attention! The I-153, TB-3 and the same Italian have no flaps! If you sit on your belly, then everything is simple. Wait until the speed drops to the maximum landing speed (its approximate values for aircraft of different types were given above) and slowly, one meter closer to the ground. The plane touches the ground with its belly, breaks off everything unnecessary, but the pilot in the cockpit is alive and well! If you decide to land on the chassis, then you have to be even more careful. If you land too abruptly, the plane will either break off the landing gear and explode, or "give a goat", which is also not very pleasant. Of course, this is just a crude emulation of an airplane emergency. In the original, enemy cannon shells can make holes the size of a car wheel in the wings of an aircraft, ailerons, rudders, flaps can come off, or the thrust can break. I even had a case when a downed bomber, spinning erratically, tore off the end of the wing of my Hurricane. The plane remained on the fly, I was even able to shoot down another bomber and return to the airfield! So practice and draw conclusions.
