Getting to the server is required to perform specific tasks, most often related to the administration of a particular site. This can be done using a special client program.

Instructions
Step 1
Search on the Internet, download and install the free PuTTY client program.
Step 2
Start PuTTY. To connect to a remote server, add a new session description. Enter the Session section by clicking on the appropriate line in the list on the left. In the Host Name (or IP address) text line, type the symbolic name or IP of the server you want to visit. In the Connection type options, select the connection corresponding to the data protocol of the connection being established. In the Port field, enter the number of the remote port. Write down the session name in the Saved Sessions column and save with the Save button.
Step 3
Select the created session from the list. Set the parameters for the terminal emulator. Enter the Terminal section. Activate the Auto, Force on, or Force off options in the Local echo and Local line editing tabs to automatically detect, force on and off in local text input and line editing modes. In the Set various terminal options column, you can activate or deactivate the options that determine the options for reflecting text in the terminal.
Step 4
Define keyboard input parameters. In the Keyboard section, in the Change the sequences sent by group, mark the keys for Home and Backspace, as well as the layout of function keys on the keypad. In the Application key pad settings group, you must set the initial state of the numeric keypad and cursor keys.
Step 5
Open the Connection section. Here you need to configure the connection properties. In the Internet protocol version group, select the version of the IP protocol. The Sending of null packets to keep session active group is used to set the parameters for keeping the connection active.
Step 6
Log in to the server. Click on Open and wait for the connection. In the window that appears, enter the server credentials. If the data is correct, you will be admitted to the server shell interface.
